The greatest question , which is confronting me these days is, "What the hell am I doing at IIT Kanpur".
No its not that, I never wanted to be here .
Like many other people, I had a goal in my life..... get inide the great IIT , by hook or by crook.
But , its not that, this was my sole goal. I had an image of the IIT's in my mind.
I used to think of it as a place where people learn great skills.
Like , CSE Dept churning out great computer scientist and hackers. Aero dept producing world class astronauts.............. But, no. What I found out here , was a continuation of schooling. We do choose our dept of choice before coming here, constrained to our ranks in IIT JEE , but it seems thats the last choice we are offered .
After that, we have to study what we are asked to , by our dept.
Moreover 50 % courses are common here for all the departments.
I dont know, what benefit will biotech students will have by studying Real Analysis. Or, for that matter, why should a Mathematics student work in the Material Sciences Lab hammering a red hot iron rod.
I mean, these things are not at all necessary.
Most of the time , I keep wondering, why am I doing a particular course.
Why should not we be given the liberty to choose our subject on our own?
Ya, they do offer some "Electives" . But, most of the time , they are not electives. Suppose, I am interested in a particular subject , I will have to check , whether i satisfy the prerequisite to that paper. Further, the timings should not clash with some other subject.
That is , we are left with little "choices".
Thanks to the Govt. of India, in the coming days, people will be having lesser alternatives or choices.
